Hitchens’ facility for language makes him eminently readable (and listenable to); likewise his intellectual rigour and self-honesty. But this memoir is perhaps too stringently representative of a life spent wrestling with political ideology. Though articulate and involved, Hitch becomes an impersonal self-rendering.
