Doctor Who: The Magic Mousetrap

This has a distinct ‘Chimes of Midnight’ feel, and it’s nice to hear Big Finish try something other than run-of-the-mill. That said, some of the story elements are a little too affected in their oddness, favouring strangeness for the sake of it.
Doctor Who: The Celestial Toymaker

The most ambitious lost story animation to date. Even if the characters now stray into the uncanny valley, the 3D, multi-angle approach offers a zaniness lacking in the original. The colour version is particularly eye-catching… but it’s still a deplorably weak script.

Neil Patrick Harris exudes menace as the Toymaker, yet the magnitude of his power (alluded to by the fate of the Master and the Guardians) is undermined by the utterly facile nature of the games chosen. Inexplicably, Ncuti Gatwa debuts without pants.
