Nick Cave & Warren Ellis live @ Brisbane Convention Centre, Great Hall

While Nick Cave still evokes the deep-voiced messianic evangelist, his set list tended more towards convalescent poetry. Warren Ellis sat back throughout like some mad railway hobo sounding the ‘train’s coming’ signal. Highlights included ‘White Elephant’, ‘I Need You’, and ‘Henry Lee’.

Nick Cave can write but the subject matter of his novels tends to be as grim as that of his songs. The Death of Bunny Munro is a mixture of literary observation, sordid apology and decaying fantasy that ends in abject pointlessness.
