The Sandman, Season 1

A suitably engrossing, character-based fantasy with concertinaed rather than season-spanning plot arcs. Dark, dreamy and unpredictable, though Gaiman and company missed a trick in not casting Dylan Moran in the lead role, at the very least for a one-off alternative reality episode.
Books of Magic: Moveable Type

A dark story with plenty happening both visually and plot-wise. The human characters are drawn with a certain grotesqueness, the colours at the visceral end of the spectrum. Engaging enough though very much a first instalment and difficult to judge in isolation.
