The Flash, Season 1

The Flash, Season 1 (2014)

Flash 1

Although initially comical in all senses, The Flash quickly develops into a top-notch superhero programme: action-packed, dramatic and divertingly — not annoyingly — larger than life. The effects mostly work, and Tom Cavanagh and Jesse L. Martin bring a maturity to the support cast.

Alphas, Season 2

Alphas, Season 2

(Syfy, 2012)

Alphas suffered from an unfortunate case of second year syndrome. Its winning premise became lost in a season-spanning story arc, which promoted dramatic grandiloquence over compelling self-contained episodes. Though still very watchable, the programme subsequently (consequently?) was canned, its potential sadly unfulfilled.

Alphas, Season 1

Alphas, Season 1

(Syfy, 2011)

An endearing, often humorous SF action/drama about a ragtag taskforce of Alphas — people with super- (or more accurately, trans-) human powers — who search for self-identity while battling their more maladjusted counterparts. Ryan Cartwright gives a standout performance as autistic technopath Gary Bell.
