Ashes of the Sun
by Django Wexler (Orbit, 2020)
audiobook read by Imogen Church (Jammer Audiobooks, 2020)
Decent, darkish fantasy. While Wexler’s worldbuilding is very good, the story is a little too predictable (in the case of Maya’s interactions with Beq and Tanax, painfully unsubtle) in ticking off tropes. The two narrative strands carry more or less equal weight.
