An uncharacteristically humourless instalment. The fundamentalist Dwarf subplot also seems rather tacked on as Pratchett, for much of the novel, merely chuffs along happily in thrall to steam locomotives that offer no great point of difference from their non-fictional, historically documented counterparts.
