Stan Lee’s Lucky Man, Series 2
(Sky One, 2017)
More coherent than the first series, though still unforthcoming in reconciling the bracelets’ supposed negative effects. James Nesbitt proves the facially immobile weakest link in an otherwise excellent cast. Corinne Bailey Rae’s theme song ‘Lucky One’ continues to entice the viewer onward.
Stan Lee’s Lucky Man, Series 1
(Sky One, 2016)
Intriguing crime drama with an undercurrent of the supernatural. Unfortunately, the Yin/Yang nature of the bracelet—the bad luck that comes concomitant with the good—is soon swept under the carpet. Amara Karan and Steven Mackintosh rather outshine a stony-faced James Nesbitt.
Murphy’s Law, Series 1
created by Colin Bateman (BBC, 2001-2003)
James Nesbitt is irrepressibly Irish as the loquacious, mercurial DS Tommy Murphy, a nonconformist whose traumatised disregard for self makes him a natural at undercover work. Claudia Harrison (DI Annie Guthrie) provides well-pitched support through five serious but quirky feature-length crime dramas.
